James Carville is America’s best-known political consultant. His long list of electoral successes proves a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected landslide victories and for transforming political underdogs into upset winners.
Carville guided Bill Clinton to his presidency in 1992. In 1993, Carville was honored as Campaign Manager of the Year by the American Association of Political Consultants for his leadership of Clinton’s fearsome and intense “War Room” at campaign headquarters in Little Rock. Carville is also an author, actor, producer, talk-show host, speaker and restaurateur.
Mary Matalin formerly served as assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney and was the first White House official to hold the double title. Before joining the Bush/Cheney White House, Matalin hosted CNN’s critically acclaimed debate show Crossfire. Matalin is the former founding co-host of the Washington-based political weeknight talk show Equal Time, which premiered in May 1993 on CNBC.
She has made frequent television appearances as a political commentator and has written for various periodicals including Newsweek and The Los Angeles Times.
Carville and Matalin co-authored the best-selling political campaign book All’s Fair: Love, War and Running for President. They both appeared on HBO’s critically acclaimed series K-Street about the world of powerful political consultants.
Together Carville and Matalin will discuss the current state of politics from both the right and left sides of the aisle and will share their predictions for the 2008 elections.
Daniel Pink
Columnist and Author, A Whole New Mind
Daniel Pink is a best-selling author and an expert on innovation, competition and the changing world of work. His latest book, A Whole New Mind, charts the rise of right-brain thinking in modern economies and explains the six abilities individuals and organizations must master in an outsourced and automated world. Several publications named A Whole New Mind one of the best business books of the year. His book has been described as “an audacious and powerful work,” “a profound read,” “right on the money” and “a miracle.” Pink’s articles on work, business and technology appear in many newspapers and magazines – including The New York Times, Harvard Business Review, Slate, Fast Company and Wired where he is a contributing editor. Pink has also provided analysis of business trends on CNN, CNBC, ABC, NPR and other networks. Beer distributors will no doubt benefit from Pink’s business expertise.
Tom Long
President and Chief Executive Officer
Miller Brewing Company
Tom Long became the president and chief executive officer of Miller Brewing Company in August 2006. Prior to his current role as CEO, Long was the chief marketing officer for Miller. Throughout his career, Long has held senior global positions in sales, marketing and general management working in more than 60 countries. In 2005, he came to Miller from the Coca-Cola Company where he most recently served in London as president of Coca-Cola Northwest Europe Division, the largest division in Europe and the third largest in the Coca-Cola system worldwide. During Long’s tenure with The Coca-Cola Company, he worked with the 7-Eleven Account Team and the Wal-mart Global Account. He also served as vice president of national sales. Miller is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SABMiller plc, the world’s second largest brewer.

Betty Buck

Betty Buck is president and owner of Buck Distributing Co. Inc. located in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. As the first female to be elected chairman of the board since NBWA’s founding in 1938, Buck is no stranger to breaking new ground and blazing new paths. Buck places a heavy emphasis on giving back to her community. She is involved in numerous charities, is a certified Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) trainer and was recently awarded a 2007 Washington BRAVO Women in Business Achievement Award. She was also named Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian magazine. As a mother of four, Buck frequently speaks to local middle and high schools about the importance of responsibility.
Buck joined the NBWA Board of Directors in 2000 and has served as vice chair, secretary and treasurer, and is nearing completion of a successful tenure as chairman of the board.

Aldo Madrigrano
Incoming Chairman of the Board
National Beer Wholesalers Association
Aldo Madrigrano is the president of W.O.W. Distributing Co., Inc., located in Sussex, Wisconsin. He is also chairman of the board of Beer Capitol Distributing in Pewaka, Wisconsin. Madrigrano is a member of the Miller Brewing Distributor Council and the Barton Beers Distributor Council. He is a third generation beer distributor who recognizes the importance of being active in his community by participating in several local charities and serving on many local Boards.
Madrigrano has served in all of the elected positions of the NBWA Board of Directors giving him a full background of the Association. He is well prepared to take the reigns as chairman of the board.

Craig A. Purser
President
National Beer Wholesalers Association
Craig Purser serves as the president and CEO of the National Beer Wholesalers Association. As the Association’s primary policy advocate, Purser is highly respected throughout the beer industry and the advocacy community as an honest leader and a consensus builder.
Instrumental in the strategic positioning of the Association in the government, public and political affairs arenas, Purser has led the charge on NBWA’s action to strengthen the beer distribution system by promoting competition and effective state-based regulation. A veteran of Capitol Hill and numerous political campaigns, Purser acknowledges his most fulfilling role is the one he now holds – advocating on behalf of the interests of 2,750 beer distributors across the country.
