ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) today announced that Rebecca Spicer will serve as Vice President, Public Affairs. Spicer brings to the association more than a decade of experience in television and communications.
As Vice President, Public Affairs, Spicer will work to increase the visibility of America’s beer distributors and highlight their role as the critical link in the state-based system of alcohol regulation that provides choice and value in the marketplace and transparency in the sale of alcohol products.
“We are very happy to have Rebecca join the team,” said NBWA President Craig Purser. “Her extensive background in media communications and message development will serve to benefit America’s beer distributors – family-owned businesses that provide tremendous choice to consumers and promote the responsible consumption of malt beverage products. Rebecca’s experience in Washington and in several media markets throughout the country will be key as we work to help beer distributors tell their story and continue to advocate for effective state-based regulation.”
A seasoned communications professional, Spicer spent 10 years in television news around the country, working for CNN in Atlanta, Georgia; WVTM in Birmingham, AL; WTNH in New Haven, CT; and KTRK in Houston, TX. She also worked for five years at Washington, D.C. ABC affiliate WJLA managing the 6:00 p.m. newscast, one of the fastest growing newscasts in the nation. During that time, Spicer produced award-winning newscasts of the D.C. sniper shootings and the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Spicer most recently served at the White House as Associate Director in the Office of Communications. There, she coordinated the President’s televised events including policy announcements, bill signings, press conferences, state arrival ceremonies and interviews.
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Spicer earned bachelor’s degrees in Art History and Studio Art from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and also in Telecommunications from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
She and her husband Sean live in Alexandria, VA.
