NBWA Sponsors Event Benefiting Military Communications Officers
The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) served as the lead sponsor for the First Annual “Flacks for Flacks Who Wear Flak Jackets” charity event on Capitol Hill. The host committee included the Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus, the Democratic National Committee Chairwoman, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and individuals from the Washington Post, National Journal, Roll Call, Politico, The Hill, ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News, PBS, USA Today and the Washington Times, among others.
Flacks – defined as publicity agents - was the theme of the November 9 event, co-hosted by Sean Spicer and Brad Woodhouse, communications directors for the Republican and Democratic National Committees, respectively. The charity event benefitted public affairs officers currently serving in Afghanistan by collecting care packages filled with gifts and necessities, monetary donations and brief video messages by attendees to be sent to public affairs officers who are currently stationed in Afghanistan.
The “Flacks for Flacks Who Wear Flak Jackets” event was hailed as a rare show of bipartisanship in Washington, D.C., bringing together folks from both sides of the aisle for some camaraderie and conversation over a cold beer. The event raised more than $15,000 for service members overseas.
“Countless beer distribution workers trade in their beer uniforms for America’s uniform on a regular basis to serve their country,” said Rebecca Spicer, NBWA Vice President, Public Affairs & Communications. “NBWA applauds their service, so it was only natural for us to support such a worthwhile effort that recognizes troops serving on the frontlines overseas.”
