What’s New at This Year’s Legislative Conference
The 2010 Legislative Conference is quickly approaching, so register today to be on Capitol Hill April 18-21. This year's conference will offer a new, exciting lineup of events and speakers. The agenda will highlight the most pressing issues facing the beer industry as well as the changes in the political landscape in Washington and across the nation. Like previous years, the 2010 Legislative Conference provides one of the best opportunities to bring everyone in the beer industry together for conversation, insights and, of course, a cold beer.
NEW This Year:
1. The “How to be a Beer Distributor Advocate” session is Sunday at 4:30 p.m. This session will be geared to first-time attendees and will help educate them on what to expect during Capitol Hill visits.
2. The Distributor Member Meeting will be held on Monday from 9:00 a.m. – noon and will include a distributor-focused discussion on the challenges facing the industry, as well as discussion of NBWA’s legislative agenda.
3. Monday afternoon will include a general session for briefing on collaborative industry issues and state association breakouts.
4. On Monday night, a congressional reception will be held on the Senate side of the Capitol.
5. The Tuesday night congressional reception will be at the Library of Congress, Montpelier room, like last year. This location proved to be excellent for the ease of members of Congress and their staffs to attend.
6. Brewers meetings will be on Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., followed by the Welcome Reception Sunday evening.
This year, distributors are encouraged to bring warehouse employees who have never been to Washington, D.C. – perhaps a longtime truck driver or a stand-out sales representative. They are the best voices to describe the solid jobs, wages and benefits that beer distributors offer from coast to coast. Members of Congress are eager to hear good stories about fulfilling jobs in this current environment, especially from their constituents.
All distributors should plan to attend this year’s Conference to personally educate members of Congress about the importance of state-based alcohol regulation and the vital role of beer distributors.
