Lauren Kane is vice president of communications at the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA), where she leads the communications team in advancing the interests of America’s 3,000 beer distribution companies and their 141,000 employees. In this role Kane oversees the development and execution of multi-faceted communications initiatives, message development, media relations, member communications and advertising. She also provides strategic communications counsel to the president and CEO as well as member companies.
Prior to joining NBWA, Kane was senior director for communications for the American Beverage Association where she managed media relations and served as a spokesperson for the non-alcohol beverage industry on issues ranging from excise taxes to the industry’s landmark Balance Calories Initiative to reduce sugar and calories consumed from beverages. She also led the communications aspects of integrated advocacy campaigns and worked with member companies to develop and execute industry communications strategy.
Previously, Kane was communications director for the Attorney General of Georgia, the nation’s eighth-largest state. In this capacity she served as the Attorney General’s chief spokesperson, provided strategic communications and political counsel and led campaigns to combat sex trafficking and prescription drug abuse.
Earlier in her career, Kane worked for the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America and served in the Administration of President George W. Bush from 2005-2008. She also was on the planning teams for the 2004 Republican National Convention in New York and the 2005 Presidential Inauguration of President George W. Bush.
She is a native of Mobile, Ala., and a graduate of the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication.
