NBWA was proud to serve as a sponsor once again for Zephyr Conference’ Annual Beer Bloggers and Writers Conference, which took place August 10–11, 2018, in Loudoun County, Va. More than 130 bloggers, beer writers and industry members gathered to meet, mingle and learn about the beer industry over a beer or two. NBWA staff attended the conference to interact with attendees and share the role independent distributors play in delivering their favorite beers to store shelves and bar taps across the country.

NBWA’s SVP, Industry Affairs Paul Pisano led a discussion on “Changes in the Beer Market: Past, Present and Future,” noting the beer industry has changed dramatically in just one year. Brewers, distributors and retailers continue to react to consumers’ demand for craft beer. Existing breweries are merging, setting up taprooms and, in some cases, selling to larger players. He explained that distributors are diversifying ways to get beer to a rapidly changing retail market.

Drawing on more than a dozen years of experience, Pisano provided attendees with a long view of the American beer industry, examining where it has been and where it is headed. He also dove into the policy and regulatory history that shapes the growing craft marketplace, while presenting compelling data and insights.

Pisano encouraged beer writers to take advantage of all the data at their disposal to better understand the policy, economic and demographic factors shaping winners and losers in the market today, as well as key industry issues to watch in 2018 and beyond.
