Simon Bergson, President and CEO of Manhattan Beer Distributors, was honored by the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation (AJCF) at a dinner in New York City on May 26, 2010. Both Bergson and his wife, Stefany, were recognized for their dedicated service to the center. The son of two Auschwitz survivors, Bergson has been chairman of the foundation since 2006.
Before Auschwitz became a symbol of the Holocaust, it was a Polish town known as Oswiecim. Generations of merchants, rabbis, doctors and lawyers raised families there. In September of 2000, the Auschwitz Jewish Center opened its doors to honor the former residents of the town and to teach future generations about what was lost. The center offers educational programs that allow future generations to explore the meaning and contemporary implications of the Holocaust.
The dinner, held at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, raised a quarter of a million dollars for the Auschwitz Jewish Center. Its supporters included Honickman/Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of New York, Boston Beer Company, Crown Imports, Mike’s Hard Lemonade Company, MillerCoors Brewing Company, and Nestlé Waters.

Well respected by friends, family, and colleagues at Manhattan Beer and in the industry, Simon was able to share his passion to ensure that we all become custodians of the Auschwitz Jewish Center and what it represents.”
Simon Bergson started his business as the owner-operator of a small beverage center in lower Manhattan in the late 1970s. In 1978, the closing of the Rheingold Brewery enabled him to obtain the local distribution rights to Carling Black label and Tuborg. Thus Manhattan Beer Distributors was born, fulfilling one of Bergson's dreams - becoming a franchised beverage distributor, buying directly from suppliers and providing best-in-class service to his customers.
After beginning with a 4,000 square foot warehouse and three delivery trucks, Manhattan Beer Distributors has consistently grown for more than 30 years. Today, Manhattan Beer Distributors now has over 1.5 million square feet of warehousing and directly services over 25,000 accounts in the metro New York City area.
