ALEXANDRIA, VA – Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned four companies that the caffeine added to their malt alcoholic beverages is an “unsafe food additive.” The action follows a March 2008 request to the FDA from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) for a health hazard assessment regarding what concentrations are acceptable when caffeine and alcohol are combined in a beverage.
